Brazil is South America’s largest country and the world’s fifth largest. Brazil was settled in the 16th century by the Portuguese and therefore is the only country in South America whose official national language is such. Modern day Brazil, while still being considered third world, has one of the fastest growing and largest economies in the world. According to Conservation International Brazil is one of 17 “megadiverse countries” whose biological diversity is so immense they consider it to harbor the majority of the world’s species. Brazil is home to roughly 60{776b86407ec664a74520af39c043ce2709776c1107984511cf5be57dd219cf33} of the Amazon rainforest which represents over half of the planet’s remaining rainforests. Besides its incredible biodiversity Brazil also boasts an incredible culture, cuisine, and is famous for its love of soccer, and the Brazilian carnival.
